What to Expect from Treatment

Our clinicians are specialized in the understanding and treatment of chronic and acute pain. We exclusively provide 1:1 care from initial evaluation through all follow up treatments. Exercise programs are taught with careful consideration of the nuances for the individual patient with the intention of performance at home. Each session will include manual therapies, education and home exercise prescription.

Acute vs Chronic Pain & Injury

Acute pain is often intense. It may cause muscle spasms and swelling that act as the body’s natural way of preventing movement. Acute pain might have a mechanism of injury or it may present insidiously. Acute pain generally lasts for several days after the onset. The nervous system is highly activated in this state as it perceives possible threats. Acute pain can be all consuming, creates stress and limits our movements due to fear of reproducing pain. The treatment of acute pain includes gentle exercises and manual therapies to down regulate the nervous system, restore motion and manage symptoms. Once acute pain has resolved, we identify movement and muscle imbalances to fully restore function and prevent recurring flare ups.

Chronic pain is pain that has persisted well beyond the inflammatory stage of healing. Chronic pain is usually dull and diffuse. Chronic pain contributes to lifestyle and behavioral changes including fear avoidant behaviors. It impacts our physical capacity and contribute to emotional distress. Chronic pain is treated differently than acute pain. Our clinicians utilize the biopsychosocial model in order to treat pain holistically. Specific treatment includes exercise, behavioral modifications, breathwork and manual therapies that target the nervous system to help restore painfree function to the body.

We Treat More than You Know!

We take a holistic approach to pelvic health that recognizes the systemic relationships between our daily lives and the role that a properly functioning pelvic floor plays in optimal living.

Holistic Orthopedic Care

Abdominal Repair:

  • Core weakness

  • Hernia (pre-op, post-op)

  • Diastasis recti

Learn how to activate your core in a balanced, synergized way to support your body and prevent back pain. Abdominal exercises, if not done with appropriate technique, might be reinforcing imbalances.

Sacroiliac Dysfunction:

We are highly specialized in treating SI pain and dysfunction in order for you to move, train and function optimally.

Hip Pain:

  • Labrum pathology

  • Joint replacement (pre-op, post-op)

  • Glute dysfunction

The pelvic bone makes up ½ of the hip bone. Pelvic pain is often intertwined with hip pathology. In other words, we cannot treat the hip without considering the pelvic floor muscles and vice versa.

Low back pain:

  • Sciatic pain

  • Repetitive stress injury (prolonged sitting)

The nerves of the lower back supply the pelvic region and the lower extremity. Tightness of muscles can restrict blood flow to surrounding tissues, including the nerves. By treating the lower back tissue, we can indirectly influence the pelvic floor and also improve sensation and function of the lower extremities (hip, knee, foot and ankle)

Neck pain:

  • Headaches

  • Cervical/thoracic spine tension

  • TMJ

The connection between the neck, jaw and pelvic floor is strong. Tension or weakness in one area may be rooted in another. Decreased circulation, nerve function and weakness can be related to pain. Through manual therapy, personalized exercise, education and influencing the nervous system, we treat these areas holistically.

Pelvic Pain Conditions

  • GI Dysfunction

  • Interstitial Cystitis

  • Chronic Prostatitis

  • Painful Mensuration

  • Vulvodynia

  • Testiculitis

Pain is a broad spectrum neurological signal that disrupts our daily lives and serves an important warning sign for underlying dysfunction. Pelvic floor therapies offer techniques to manage and address underlying conditions.

Men's Pelvic Health

  • Testicular Pain

  • Chronic Prostatitis

  • Hernia (pre-op, post-op)

  • Pudendal Neuralgia

  • Hemorrhoids

  • Erectile Dysfunction

The pelvic floor is a set of muscles that support basic body function from breath to the bladder and bowel. A healthy pelvic floor supports comfortable sport, optimal sexual function, regular and complete bowel movement, and prostate health, among other things.

Urinary & Bladder Concerns

  • Adult & Pediatric Incontinence

  • Frequency or urgency

  • Constipation

  • Pelvic organ prolapse

  • Hemorrhoid and Fissure

Weak and overactive pelvic floor muscles are often to blame for common urinary and bowel ailments. We will take a focused approach on healing these issues through retraining exercises, manual therapy, and a cultivated awareness of  bladder and bowel habits.

Sexual Dysfunction

  • Pain during Penetration

  • Anorgasmia

  • Painful Orgasm

  • Erectile Dysfunction

Sex does not need to be uncomfortable. Often, sexual dysfunction can be tied to a more fundamental problem of Pelvic Floor Dysfunction, which simply means that one or more of the muscles of the pelvic floor is not working properly. Using a personalized combination of manual therapies, education and at-home exercises together we can address your sexual health.
